KILLING THE FUTURE?

The recent events on the alleged extrajudicial killings of three teenagers in Metro Manila have had shaded a cloud of doubt on the promise of genuine peace and order in the country. The deaths of Carl Angelo Arnaiz, Reynaldo De Guzman and Kian Delos Santos somehow spread fear and terror more than the serenity and sanctity of human life.
We are a peace-loving people despite our dark predicament in the past; yet, we still normally shake our heads and heave a sigh when fear and doubt invade our thoughts upon hearing and witnessing these grueling murders that took place just recently.
The lives that were lost should have been a part of a bright future but we really do not know the whole story. Are they really the culprits or purely victim of drug-related cases? We don’t question the government of its initiative to protect the life, liberty, and property of its citizens but it seems the means do not always justify the ends.
We wish that it could have not happened if not of the unseen circumstances surrounding this complicated life. They could be guilty or innocent. On the other side of the coin, they could have been fall guys or victims of circumstances. No one really has lifted a true finger to address this dilemma. If there was, it’s just fleeting and transitory. The boys had lost their precious lives and no power on earth could bring them back. They could have been part of a brighter future… but now it’s just an elusive dream.
